Nuance Communications has unveiled a new version of its PaperPort 14 solution for scanning paper documents and easily entering them into electronic document management systems. PaperPort 14, available as a free download from diakov.net, offers all of the same features that many users have known from previous versions, but in an expanded and improved form: fast and easy scanning, clear document organization, extensive PDF support, and communication. with network folders and applications.
In addition to the familiar features, the new version of PaperPort 14 offers a couple of new features that allow the product to follow two of the hottest trends in personal and business applications - mobility and cloud computing.
New Scan-and-Open add-ons for One-Click Fast Scan feature provide improved scanning speed and convenience. Fast Scan now supports virtually any TWAIN, WIA, and ISIS image input device. As a result, with fast scanning, it provides much higher image quality and text recognition - an increase in accuracy is up to 34 percent. Compressing documents using the PDF-MRC algorithm generates PDF files up to 8 times smaller than regular uncompressed PDFs. Navigation through the archive of documents is facilitated by a new view in the form of folders, support for the standard Windows context menu, and support for jump lists in the Windows 7 operating system.
Other important features of PaperPort 14 include support for over 20 cloud services, including Google Docs and Evernote, plus Nuance PaperPort Anywhere, its own cloud and mobile service. The PaperPort Anywhere service allows subscribers to automatically save documents from their computers to the cloud, and then access those documents from within PaperPort 14 on Windows, any web browser, and the free mobile apps for Apple iPad and iPhone, or for devices with Android operating system.
Also worth noting is a new feature called PDF Hover Notes. PaperPort 14 now has a lot more information available to the user when browsing PDF documents in icon folders — a large indicator appears in the upper left corner of the document icon to indicate that the file contains keywords and a short description. By hovering over such an icon, you can see a pop-up dialog with a description without opening the file itself.
The designers of the PaperPort 14 system emphasize the ability of their product to easily connect to network folders, while blocking files used over the network from unauthorized access, increasing security and facilitating collaboration. By installing copies of PaperPort on each workstation, you can quickly implement a centralized document sharing and electronic archiving scheme.
