This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.▸ The machine is decided long before anyone sees it.By the time a compressor or a pump arrives on site, every consequential decision about it has already been made - in a datasheet, in a specification, in a clarification email, and in a bid evaluation nobody outside the project ever reads. The machine can only be as good as those documents were.Yet specification is the least taught skill in machinery engineering. Engineers are handed a blank API datasheet with columns they have never had explained, a specification hierarchy nobody has reconciled, and three bids that cannot be compared because each vendor has priced a different scope. The blanks get filled in, the cheapest compliant bid is recommended, and the consequences arrive two years later as an availability problem.This course teaches the whole sequence - defining the duty, completing the datasheet, building an enquiry package that produces comparable bids, evaluating technically and on lifecycle cost, and then holding the vendor to it through document review, manufacturing surveillance, testing and close-out.▸ The datasheet is a contract, not a formMost of this course is built around one idea: the datasheet is the contractual definition of the machine. Whoever fills in a field owns it, whatever is left blank becomes the vendor's choice, and every mandatory field left to a standard default is a decision made by absence. The course goes through the structure of an API datasheet section by section, including the fields most often left empty and what that omission costs.Bid evaluation is treated as an engineering exercise rather than a commercial one.
